Dynamic Age Defense SPF is a treatment, moisturizer and sunscreen in one — broad spectrum SPF 30, 15% zinc oxide, PA++++, in a formula that stays completely transparent. Pavise states that it protects against visible light as well as UVA and UVB.

The two problems this actually solves

1. It is transparent on all skin tones. The reason most people abandon mineral sunscreen is the white cast — and the darker your skin, the worse that trade-off gets. A zinc sunscreen that leaves a grey film is a sunscreen that lives in the cabinet. Pavise builds this one on DiamondCore® Shield Technology specifically to sit transparent across the tone range. The best sunscreen is the one you will actually wear every morning.

2. It addresses visible light without a tint. Standard SPF numbers only describe UVB. But visible light — including the light coming off your screen and the light that gets through on an overcast day — is implicated in pigmentation, particularly melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation in deeper skin tones. Most sunscreens that cover visible light do it with an iron-oxide tint you have to colour-match to your skin. This one contains no iron oxides — Pavise's route is its nanodiamond–zinc oxide DiamondCore® technology, and that visible-light claim is Pavise's own. Questions, answered

Will this help my melasma?

Daily photoprotection is the most important part of managing melasma, and it is where most routines fall short. Melasma is driven by hormones and by light — and not only UV. Visible light, including daylight through a window and the light off a screen, contributes to pigmentation, and the SPF number on a bottle describes UVB only. Most sunscreens that address visible light do it with an iron-oxide tint; this one has no iron oxides, and Pavise states that its DiamondCore® technology covers visible light without one. That is the manufacturer's claim rather than independent data, so we are straight with patients about it — it is the reason we reach for this one when a tinted sunscreen has never suited someone's skin tone. It will not clear pigment you already have; that needs a plan, and usually more than a bottle.

Can this replace my morning moisturizer?

For most people, yes. Pavise positions it as treatment, moisturizer and sunscreen in one, and in practice it replaces two morning steps — which is the real reason people stay consistent with it. If your skin runs very dry you may still want a hydrating serum underneath, applied first and given a minute to absorb. What you should not do is layer a separate moisturizer on top: that thins the sunscreen film and is the most common way people end up under-protected.

Does it leave a white cast on deeper skin tones?

No — it is formulated to sit transparent across the tone range, which is the whole point of the DiamondCore® Shield approach. This matters more than it sounds: the white cast is the single most common reason people abandon mineral sunscreen, and the darker your skin the worse that trade-off gets. It also matters clinically, because melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation are more common in deeper skin tones — the people who most need daily mineral SPF are the ones most often let down by how it looks.

Why is this $148 when a drugstore mineral SPF is $15?

Worth saying first: daily sunscreen is the single highest-return product in skincare. Nothing else prevents premature ageing as effectively, and no serum recovers what unprotected sun exposure has already cost you — so the real question is not whether to wear one. Then: not the SPF number either. A $15 mineral sunscreen applied properly protects. You are paying for visible-light coverage the drugstore bottle does not have, which is what matters if you are working on pigmentation, and a finish transparent enough on your tone that you actually wear it every morning. If you already own one you never skip, keep it.

When can I restart sunscreen after a laser treatment?

In our protocol SPF comes in on day three. Freshly resurfaced skin cannot take product immediately, so your care team will confirm the timing for your treatment depth. Until then it is hats and shade rather than product. When you do restart, use about a nickel-sized amount for the face and reapply every two hours outdoors — sun exposure in the months after resurfacing is the fastest way to undo the result.
