Two steps: silicone to help the scar flatten and fade, then silicone with SPF to keep it from darkening in the sun.

Dr. Piazza's scar protocol at a glance

1. Once your incision is closed and cleared: apply Silagen 100% Silicone Scar Gel twice daily.
2. When the scar sees sun, or starts to lose its pink color (often around 12 weeks): switch to Silagen Scar Gel SPF 30.
3. Keep going: continue scar care for 6 to 8 months, and protect the scar from the sun for the first 18 months.
