The Hypochlorous Acid Mist Our Aestheticians Actually Use
The Lumion Hypochlorous Acid Miracle Mist is the original HOCl facial spray — and it is not a product we simply stock. Dr. Piazza's aesthetics team reaches for it daily in the treatment room: for sterilizing the skin after procedures, for preventing breakouts before they start, and for calming the congestion that sunscreen and heat leave behind. It has become the quiet workhorse of the practice, which is why it is on this page.
✨ Key Benefits:
- Helps clear active breakouts and prevent new ones from forming
- Calms the appearance of redness, irritation and rosacea-prone flushing
- Sterilizes and refreshes skin after procedures, workouts or travel
- Safe to mist over sunscreen, makeup or a healing treatment area
- Cannot be overused — reapply as often as you like, all day
- Free of alcohol, parabens, fragrance, phthalates, gluten and dye
How to Use: Close your eyes and mist generously over the face and neck. Reapply throughout the day — there is no limit, and no need to rinse or wipe. Follow with Save My Skin Serum or your moisturizer if you want more hydration.
Size: 3.4 oz / 100 mL
How Our Aestheticians Use It
Three uses come up constantly in the treatment room, and each one translates directly to home care:
- Post-procedure sterilization. After a facial, microneedling, laser or a peel, the skin barrier is temporarily open and far more vulnerable to bacteria than usual. HOCl is one of the few things gentle enough to use on compromised skin that still addresses bacteria — which is why it goes on immediately after treatment rather than an alcohol-based toner.
- Breakout prevention. Most breakouts are easier to stop than to clear. Misting morning and night keeps surface bacteria in check before a clogged pore becomes an inflamed one, and because it is weightless and non-comedogenic, it can be used every day indefinitely.
- Sunscreen-related congestion. One of the most common complaints we hear is that daily SPF causes breakouts — and the usual response, skipping sunscreen, is the worst possible trade. Misting over sunscreen through the day, and again when you take it off at night, addresses the bacteria and sweat trapped underneath without disturbing the SPF layer.
What Hypochlorous Acid Actually Is
HOCl is not an exfoliating acid, despite the name — it will not sting, peel or sensitize. It is the same molecule your own white blood cells produce to neutralize bacteria and manage inflammation. That is what makes it unusual: it addresses breakout-causing bacteria the way benzoyl peroxide does, but with a tolerance profile closer to plain water. It is why it is safe on open post-procedure skin, on rosacea, and on children.
Key Ingredients
- Hypochlorous Acid (HOCl) — targets breakout-causing bacteria and helps calm visible inflammation.
- Electrolyzed Oxygenated Water — the stabilizing base that keeps HOCl active.
- Dead Sea Salt (Sodium Chloride) — supports the formula's soothing, clarifying effect.
Dermatologist tested and approved. Clinically proven. Made in the USA.
Who It's For
A strong fit if you are acne-prone, rosacea-prone, or recovering from an in-office treatment. Also worth keeping in a gym bag, a car, or a carry-on — it is the simplest way to clean skin when washing it is not an option. Gentle enough for sensitive and post-procedure skin, and safe to use alongside retinoids, acids and prescription topicals without any risk of interaction.
How to Work It Into Your Routine
Mist on bare skin morning and night before anything else, and let it dry for a few seconds before your serum. Then treat it as a throughout-the-day product: after the gym, after a mask, after a flight, over your sunscreen at lunch. It pairs naturally with the Lumion Save My Skin Serum and the Lumion Miracle Mask as a full HOCl routine, and it layers under or over anything else you use.
