Questions, answered

Is hyaluronic acid safe to use while I'm healing from a procedure?

Generally it is one of the first things that comes back, because it is hydration rather than an active — no acid, no retinoid, no exfoliation. That said, "first back" is not "day one." Nothing goes on open or weeping skin, and your provider's aftercare sets the date. Once the surface has closed, a bland HA serum under whatever occlusive you have been given is usually comfortable and helps with the tightness patients complain about most in week two.

Damp skin or dry skin — and does hyaluronic acid make skin drier in a dry climate?

Damp, always, and seal it. This is the part most people get wrong: HA is a humectant, so it pulls water from wherever it can find it. Applied to dry skin in dry air with nothing over it, it can draw moisture out of the upper layers and leave skin tighter than before. Apply to skin that is still slightly wet from cleansing, then put a moisturizer on top within a minute. In an Austin summer with air conditioning running, that sequence is the whole difference.

Why $189 for hyaluronic acid when it's $12 at the drugstore?

Because you are not paying for the hyaluronic acid. A $12 HA serum hydrates, and if that is what you want, buy it — we mean that. This formula's argument is the exosome complex alongside a multi-weight HA blend, where different molecular sizes sit at different depths. Whether that justifies the gap depends on whether you believe the exosome case, and we have set out the honest version of that on the ELITE page. If HA is all you are after, the drugstore bottle is not a compromise.
